Manager Neale Fenn was satisfied with the result but slightly underwhelmed by the performance as Longford Town chalked up a routine 2-0 victory over struggling Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening.

Without having to get out of second gear, the midlanders always had the home side at arm's length and never looked like leaving with anything other than the three points, and Fenn felt at times they could have made life easier for themselves.

“If you look at possession I suppose it was comfortable enough but I still felt that we didn't play really, really well, especially in the first-half. I suppose the second-half is a little bit different when you're a little bit more relaxed and the lads are trying things that they perhaps wouldn't normally try in a tighter game. A few passes went astray, but in the end I'm delighted with the win, delighted with the two goals and the clean sheet,” he said.

The Longford Town boss clearly felt his side are capable of a more polished performance but never thought that they would lose their vice-like grip on Friday's game.

“It was tough to get going but the result never really looked in doubt, but we'll need to play a little bit better than we did tonight if we want to continue to climb up the table”, he said.

Fenn said a promotion push is firmly in their sights and if they can perform well consistently they're more than capable of being in the shake-up at the business end of the campaign.

“We had a little bit of a wobble with a couple of home defeats but we're in a challenging position. We're a couple of points off the play-off places so hopefully we'll be in and around there at the end of the season,” he said.
