Confidence has always come naturally to Neale Fenn. As a player, he almost floated around the pitch, taking everything in his stride. Now, as a manager, he is learning how to pass that on to others.

The former Cork City ace is fired up to succeed with Longford Town in what is his first managerial job. Yet it's hardly surprising that his ambitions are stacked high when quizzed about what he wants from the 2018 season.

"We have to get promoted - that's why we're all in it. That's the main aim," stated Fenn.

Speaking on the Greatest League In The World podcast, Fenn explained that he was content running his Path2Pro academy before the temptation to get back involved with the SSE Airtricity League found him.

"I was out of the game for a long while. I retired in 2010 and wasn't really interested into getting back into the professional game or anything like that, I was happy what I was doing coaching kids and stuff like that," he said.

"In 2014, Darius Kierans was manager of Drogheda (United) and asked me to come in and help him out there as assistant for a few months. Then Damien Richardson came in but I didn't get the kind of buzz from it that I thought I would.

"Then I got a call last summer asking if I want to help out at (Leyton) Orient as an assistant. They were rock bottom and had never been relegated out of the League and I just fancied it. I thought 'why not?' I just loved it, absolutely loved it. It got the buzz back again...this is what I remember from playing.

"They ended up getting relegated, unfortunately, but when I came back I thought 'this is what I want to do now'. I got a little bit of a buzz for it and I want to see if I can manage a League of Ireland team."
