Former League of Ireland star Conan Byrne has organised an essential service to SSE Airtricity League supporters to help people get through the current lockdown.
Byrne, currently with Glenavon in the Northern Irish Premiership, has organised a number of LOI players/coaches/journalists from every league club to speak to the elderly or people who are isolating.
With new lockdown measures in place throughout the country since Wednesday, sections of society will suffer from extreme loneliness and currently can't go and watch football due to restrictions.
The former Pats winger has encouraged supporters to contact him with people who will benefit from a chat with someone from their LOI club.
Dundalk defender Brian Gartland signed up for the service and has already spoke with supporters this morning, a night after their UEFA Europa League match against Molde.
"I like trying to help people, especially people who are finding the mental side of the situation difficult and the reaction has been great so far," Byrne told @stpatsfc.
"A lot of people and clubs have done this already during the previous lockdown. During this lockdown, I thought why not make it a League of Ireland thing and give supporters the chance to chat if they're in need of it.
"I didn't want to make it about one club, but the whole league. I have over 100 players or former players or journalists ready to get in touch with people who'd need it. There are so many players and people from around the league who have stepped up which is fantastic."
