Dundalk stopper Gary Rogers saw his side run out impressive 2-0 winners at a glorious Dalyount Park on Friday night and was full of praise for his teammates on the back of a busy week.

“We are all really pleased with that win, and feel it was an important three points. We’ve had a busy week, playing three games against Sligo Rovers, Derry City and tonight against Bohs, and the final two away from home doesn’t make it easier but yeah it was a good win.”

Dundalk took the lead through the league’s top scorer Patrick Hoban and finally settled the hugely entertaining clash late on with Sean Hoare heading home following a goal mouth scramble.

“It was a really enjoyable game in fairness. Both teams had chances to score, some excellent football on show from both teams and delighted that we took our chances and think we deserved it. A clean sheet was the icing on the cake too so a good night all round” said the Navan native.

Rogers was called into action, making a huge save right at the start of the second half standing big to save from Dylan Watts who was clean through on goal as the game was finely poised at just 1-0. The experienced stopper described just what was going through his mind as the impressive Bohs midfielder came face to face with him.

“I think I just read it really. I could kind of tell from his first touch and how it sat up that he’s going to try and flick it over me. So when I saw him put his head down I opted to stay big and saved thankfully. In fairness, I’ve been on the wrong end of a few of those!”

Rogers went on to praise the squad strength and recruitment from his gaffer to maintain a challenge on all fronts, including the soon to be upcoming European campaign.

“All credit to the boys, they have been brilliant. We’ve had a lot of injuries recently and lads have slotted in seamlessly and we’ve continued to play our game and do well. A lot of credit has to go to the gaffer aswell on the recruitment side, getting the right players and characters.

"We want to make sure that, even though we have a lot of games, we can try peak for the European push when that rolls around. So things are going well so far, long may it continue.”
