Drogheda United assistant manager John Gill has praised the reaction of his side after they drew 0-0 with Bray Wanderers at United Park. A 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Cork City on Friday saw the Drogs slip to bottom of the table but Gill believes his players showed great togetherness to halt high-flying Bray. ”I’m very pleased with our performance tonight and particularly the clean sheet,” Gill noted post-match. “It’s funny that it was our back four from last year, perhaps not our best defenders individually, that worked so well together as a group tonight. “I thought we could’ve nicked at the death with some of the chances we created. It was a poor game but we made six changes off the back of a terrible performance down in Cork but the players reacted superbly.” Despite being outplayed for much of the first-half, Drogheda ended the contest the stronger though Gill acknowledged that his side were weary of being caught on the break. “Maybe we could’ve gambled a little more at the end but then you always run the risk of losing the game and we needed a result tonight,” the Dubliner explained. "Had we gotten beaten tonight we would’ve remained bottom of the league but now we’re out of the relegation zone. “It’s so tight down there at the bottom. Every point is gold dust and that’s the way we’re treating it. "I think a lot of people thought we’d be cut adrift at this stage but we just want to stay in the pack going into the break.” Gill also revealed that there has been a bug among the Drogheda camp over the last number of week as they named only five players on the bench against the Seagulls. “We’ve actually had a sickness in the camp stretching back nearly a month at this stage. I’ve had it, Pete Mahon’s had it and we were down two bodies as a result this evening. "We’re working hard on getting to the bottom of it but hopefully we’re over the worst of it now.”
