Shelbourne manager Owen Heary spoke of his frustration at dropping yet more points at home following his side's disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to a resurgent Wexford side.

”We didn’t play particularly well to be honest, but we found ourselves one up and they weren’t creating too many chances," said Heary after the game in Tolka Park.

"Then, its just two mistakes for their goals. Sean (Byrne) has a chance to clear, takes a touch, takes another touch and unfortunately gets closed down and it’s in the back of the net. And as for the second, we make three great blocks and somehow the ball falls to them again in the box, its 2-1 and from then we’re chasing the game. Probably even more frustrating at the fact we’ve been doing so well recently."

Despite the result, Heary wasn’t too harsh on his players, going on to say: “I think the tough recent run may have taken its toll on the players slightly. I can't give out about them, they’ve been on a great run the last five games, played a lot recently, especially the younger players.

"Also we had Alan Byrne and Adam O’Connor out which was a big loss too. I can’t fault the lads effort the last couple of weeks and we’ll put tonight down to just a bad day at the office.”

Following the defeat, it’s a missed opportunity for the Drumcondra-based side to close the gap on the top with the three sides ahead of them.
