Cobh Ramblers manager Stephen Henderson adopted a new formation of 4-5-1 for their game against Longford Town last weekend. It was a tactic which paid off, and he was delighted with the result which he felt his side deserved.

“I do think we deserved the three points. I think we created the most chances in the game. A little bit more composure in the first half and we could have been going in ahead,” he said.

“We went 5-4-1 tonight. That sounds negative but I thought going forward we looked a real threat.”

It’s four wins in five games in all competitions for Ramblers, who travel to Tolka Park to face Shelbourne in their next league fixture. Henderson will hope they can continue their good form.

Cobh Ramblers won the tie 2-0 at St. Colman’s Park on Saturday in a victory which keeps them in touch with the top two, level on points with U.C.D and one point behind leaders Waterford United.

Goals from Kyle McNamara and Charlie Fleming gave Cobh all three points in what was a game played at a high pace.

“There is real improvement going on here, and to be missing key players and lads to come in who haven't played in so long and put in performances like that, it's just brilliant.”

Henderson was also full of praise for James McSweeney, who was recently called up to the Republic of Ireland men’s under 18 squad for the Slovakia Cup which starts today Monday, 24th April.

“Absolutely thrilled for him. He's only 17. I suppose, when you look at James and you look at young players you want them to be tested.”

“When we played against Waterford, I think one of the cornerstones of that game was the way Ben [O’ Riordan] and James played that night,” he went on to say.

For Longford, it was their fourth loss in what has been a frustrating campaign so far. They lie seventh in the table, six points clear of bottom side Wexford FC.

Next up for Longford is fellow strugglers Athlone Town. A victory would see them overtake Ricardo Monsanto’s side in the league standings.
