A young Bohemians side saw of an impressive Cabinteely outfit in an entertaining 2-1 game in the second round of the EA Sports Cup. Match-winner Sam Byrne spoke, not just of his delight at scoring the all important penalty to send Bohs through but also his enjoyment at the club following his move from Dundalk in the off season. “We had a bit of shaky start, going one down and not playing the best. But delighted at how we turned it around the second half,” said the former Ireland under-21 striker. “You can imagine what was said at half time, but we all knew we had to be much better in the second half and felt we all came out fired up and ready to go.” The talented 23-year old was impressive throughout showing excellent strength and composure on the ball, keeping possession when needed and showing that bit of quality playing forward. Byrne also seemed to have a good understanding with Ryan Swan as a two up top, something that Byrne seemed to enjoy just as they did against Shelbourne recently. “We kind of try keep it as a two up front, he might try get in behind more than me but it seems to be working well for us, but we can swap and I might go into the channels so it’s going good so far.” On the penalty that won the game, a goal his performance deserved, he added: “I managed to grab the ball and the lads were nice enough to let me have it, but all I though about was just score, score and that’s it and thankfully their keeper went the wrong way, so yeah very happy!” Bohemians have had a fantastic start to the League campaign winning four out of seven and sit in third in the league, so chances have been limited but the ex-Manchester United and Everton man sees it as a good thing and is enjoying his spell in Phibsborough. “Training is going well, I feel fitter and fitter everyday. I do think there’ll be more opportunities going forward, I’ve come on a few times and have had a couple of starts and done well so looks good," Byrne said. "There’s an unbelievable feel around the club at the moment, and were now going into games with a confidence that we can win and perform at a high level, although it does make it that bit harder to get in the team when the lads are playing that well too, but it’s a good complaint I suppose.”
