Cabinteely Director of Football Pat Devlin has insisted that they are single-minded in their pursuit of the play-offs. Currently in fourth place in the SSE Airtricity League First Division table, the White and Greens are just two points off second position in what is a record-breaking season. “When you are thinking about the play-offs, you don’t think about anything else but yourself. The Limerick win was important last Friday. We can’t look at any other results. Once you win your games, nobody can catch you,” he explained. “We’re not really concerned how other results go to be quite honest. We have Galway, Cobh, Athlone and then Wexford still to play. There are no easy games. They are all tough.” Devo went on say, “It’s all to play for. The squad is good. We had a few injuries and suspensions lately. If we can get a couple of players back, if we get to the play-offs, it would be a fantastic situation for us. But the play-offs are well out of our minds at this stage. We just play each game as it comes.” The promotion and play-off matters will take a back seat this week when Cabinteely face Extra.ie FAI Cup four in a row finalists Cork City at Stradbrook. “We’re doing well this season, better than anyone could have anticipated. But it’s not over yet. The Cork game is a game you would like to take a scalp and get one over the big boys,” said the veteran manager who lifted the trophy with Bray back in 1990 and 1999. “It’s going to be a tough ask. Cork are a tough side, and in the final the past few years – winning it twice. Hopefully, it will be a great occasion against one of the top teams in the country.”
