Shamrock Rovers new boy Sean Kavanagh played in three positions and was among the goals during Shamrock Rovers 6-0 mauling of Bray Wanderers at the Tallaght Stadium. Kavanagh started on the left wing and swapped positions with Brandon Miele at half time. He also filled in at left-back.

Back home after spending six years at Craven Cottage with Fulham, Sean is delighted to link up with Rovers. “It’s the biggest club in Ireland and I’m a Dublin boy so that helped as well.”

“I think I got a good reception off the fans. If that’s something to go on I look forward to playing there,” says Kavanagh of his two early league appearances at the Tallaght Stadium.

Kavanagh, whose precision free-kick was the fifth of Rovers six on the night, is remaining grounded about his immediate objectives in the Hoops colours. “I only set myself some short-term goals to get and stay in the Rovers team, to compete in the league, compete in the cups and look forward to the season.”

Rovers boss Stephen Bradley was understandably upbeat after the match. “Tonight, some of our attacking play was very good. We were clinical around the edge of the box.”

“He has that quality. Anywhere around 25-30 yards he can put the ball on a sixpence,” purred the manager of Graham Burke’s opener, which set Rovers on their way to the biggest win of the Head Coach’s reign.

“It’s going to be good competition between them,” said Bradley of his main striking options, Gary Shaw (who didn’t see action against the Seagulls) and newcomer Daniel Carr, who netted Rovers fourth of the night.

Games this coming weekend might fall foul of Storm Emma but Bradley is focused. “We’ve got to prepare as if the match is going ahead and it’s a big game for us. We’ll go down there and look to win the game.”
