Bohemians ran out 3-1 winners over archrivals Shamrock Rovers in an enthralling opening to the 2018 season.

Two goals from Dan Casey either side of Paddy Kavanagh’s well taken effort saw the Gypsies produce a spirited comeback win, following Ronan Finn’s opener.

Speaking to, winger Kavanagh, who showed some wonderful touches throughout and was a constant thorn in the Hoops side, he beamed, “Absolutely delighted with that and thought we deserved it on the second half alone. It’s always nice to win “that” one, and a great start to the season.

Speaking about his goal that turned the tide fully in the home sides favour, he went onto say, “I didn’t think about it too much to really, just wanted to get a good touch to set myself, get the head down and hammer the back of the ball as hard as I could and was delighted to see it hit the back of the net!”

As is with most League of Ireland clubs, there tends to be a big turnaround in personnel, and Kavanagh who has seen his fair share pass through the doors of Dalymount, was full of praise for the new players. “I think the gaffer (Keith Long) has bought really well, brought in some quality players, but the most enjoyable part is how the new players have bought into what we are about. A close group who work our asses off for each other and credit the new players, they understood that straight away.”

Debuts for Darragh Leahy, who was very impressive at left back, Kevin Devaney, who worked his socks off on the left flank and Eoghan Stokes, who replaced Devaney on the left wing all seemed to fit seamlessly into Long’s game plan.

The jubilant Kavanagh finished off by saying, “It’s great to be back and a fantastic start, but we need to be more consistant than last season, we would often win one or two and then ose one or two, but if we can build on tonight, get that consistency then it could be a very good year here.”
