Having won two SSE Airtricity League Premier Division medals Paul Keegan understands that it takes a bit of luck along the way to ultimately finish on top.

It is why he wasn't too bothered about his first goal for Waterford - on his debut - not being one that he will add to his career highlights reel.

For the Dubliner, the only thing that mattered was securing the three points in last Saturday's game away to Longford Town. They achieved that and now it's on to the next mission: beating Cobh Ramblers on Friday.

"It's great to get the win and I'm pleased to get the goal. It was a tough game and it was end to end. Both teams had chances and the game was pretty much up and down," said Keegan.

"I thought that we started a bit slow, but we got the win and that's the most important thing.

"The goal was a bit of luck and absolutely luck plays its part when you're going for a league title. I also think it's about grinding out results.

"We now have a massive game this week against Cobh Ramblers."

Waterford sit top of the First Division table on 42 points after 20 games played, which is six points ahead of second-placed Cobh. The battle at the RSC should be a gripping one.
