Bray Wanderers dropped points but still had reason to celebrate as they rose to second in the Premier Division table.

Ryan Brennan’s headed goal in the 24th minute was the least the Seagulls deserved for a dominant first half but that all unravelled as Kurtis Byrne produced a rocket from the blue a minute into the second period.

Both sides had glorious chances to win it but a draw was a worthy result in an entertaining encounter.

It was a frustrating evening for Bray boss Harry Kenny who felt his side left two points behind them.

“Particularly in the first half we were very good. We carried on from the game last week where we played really good football in the second half against Cork. We continued that on in the first half tonight against Pat’s so I was delighted with the football we were playing and the chances we were creating. If we keep playing that way, we’ll be alright this year. I’m hugely disappointed to drop two points though.

“Even though they (Pat’s) had a bit of possession in the second half and the breeze was in their favour, we created the better chances. I can’t remember Peter (Cherrie) having a save to make in the second half so on that front and overall, I thought we deserved to win the game.”

Aaron Greene and John Sullivan both passed up gilt-edged chances for Bray before Keith Buckley saved the day for Bray on the stroke of full time as Kurtis Byrne beat the offside trap and cut it back to Dennehy with the goal at his mercy but Buckley slid in to put it behind. Shoring up the defence is something that Kenny has been working on with his troops in recent times.

“We’ve been working on that a lot in training. We definitely were conceding too many goals in the first part of the season so we worked on that quite a bit. We’ve tightened up a little bit but I love my clean sheets so we need to get a few more of them!”
