Bray Wanderers’ Harry Kenny spoke with SSEAirtirictyLeague.ie after the 2-1 victory over St. Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park.

Kenny said: “I felt that we deserved the three points, we played very well in the first half and created a lot of chances, and I was a bit disappointed to be only 1-0 up at half-time,  I thought we should have been more than that.”

Though his side were fluent in attack, Kenny had praise for his defence, who limited the Saints to few openings, “All the best teams are built on good back fours and keeping clean sheets, they were very good last year, they’ve continued this year, very good in pre-season. They did very well tonight when Pats put a bit of pressure on us.”

Having witnessed the game reach a boiling point at the end, both Darren Dennehy and Aidan Keena were dismissed, the latter for a poor challenge on the influential Connolly, Kenny was quick to dismiss the involvement of his players, “The tackle on Dylan was very bad, he needed a bit of protection and as team mates, lads come in and that invites others to come in. It was really handbags, I thought.”

Kenny believes Connolly, who set up his sides opening goal, has room for more improvement, “If Dylan continues on the way he left off last season, he can become a really, really good player. He’s still learning, he’s very young, he’s only 21 and he’s a lot to learn.

“People in the League know about him now which makes it more difficult He just needs to continue to work hard at training, and perform at the weekend.”

“I was delighted with Anto (Flood), he still needs to build up his fitness levels. I thought Gary (McCabe) was very good. He deserved his goal because he was outstanding tonight.”
