We’ve got three Dublin Derbies across our three League of Ireland Divisions this weekend as well as a heavyweight clash between Derry City and Dundalk on Friday night.

Highlights

SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division

Derry City v Dundalk
The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium
10 March, 2023 – 19:45

Two of the form sides in the Division clash on Friday night as Ruaihdrí Higgins returns to the sidelines after a family bereavement.

The City boss was full of praise for his players and staff, insisting they had been 'a real credit to the club' while he had been dealing with the recent family bereavement.

"They have done brilliantly - Alan Reynolds, Conor Loughrey - all the backroom team and of course the players deserve so much credit.

"Philip O'Doherty, Sean Barrett, the office staff and everyone behind the scenes have shown why this is the most unique and special club in Ireland."

Two wins over the past week mean that Derry go into this game at the top of the table and despite a few key injuries, the Manager put much of that down to the depth of his squad.

"We've had a few injuries, that's no secret, but compared to even last year, we have been able to bring genuine quality into the team.

Dundalk, meanwhile, will be looking for a third straight win on Friday after dispatching Dubliners St Pat’s and Shels at Oriel Park on Friday and Monday.

St Patrick’s Athletic v Bohemians
Richmond Park
10 March, 2023 – 19:45

A Dublin City Derby awaits Inchicore on Friday night with heavy pressure on St Pat’s Manager Tim Clancy to arrest a poor couple of results on Friday and Monday.

There will be no better tonic than a win over an impressive Bohs side who have started 2023 well in their push for Europe.

The game is sold out since last week and Bohs will be looking to build on their 3-1 win over Drogheda United last Monday.

St Pat’s will know, however, that chinks in the Bohs armour does exist after Shels had beaten Declan Devine’s men on Friday night last in their first Dublin Derbyof the year and the Saints will be looking execute the same in Richmond Park.

They will be encouraged by Chris Forrester’s cracking goal away to Sligo Rovers on Monday but Tim Clancy will know a win is vital to climb up the table.

Even at this early stage of the season, a win for Bohs will create a comforting gap between them and their south city rivals in the race for Europe.

Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers
Tolka Park
10 March, 2023 – 19:45

It’s a Ringsend Derby with a lot riding on it on Friday as the defending Champions go in search of their first win of the season away to Shelbourne in the two sides’ first meeting of the 2023 campaign.

Their last meeting was a memorable affair in Tallaght when a late Rory Gaffney goal gave Stephen Bradley’s men a 3-2 win over the Reds.

Shamrock Rovers had an already famous 4-4 draw on Monday night against Cork City but will already be concerned at a gap developing between them and Derry City meaning three points are crucial in their search for a fourth title.

Damien Duff, however, will be looking to build on last Friday’s Derby win over Bohemians and look to make it two in two at home to Dublin rivals after a frustrating 2-1 loss in Oriel on Monday.

SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division

Bohemians v Shelbourne
11 March, 2023 – 15:00
Dalymount Park

After a perfect start on Saturday at home to Cork City, Champions Shelbourne will be hoping to continue the defence of their title with a win away to local rivals Bohemians.

Bohs have recruited well in the off season with Sarah Rowe and Mia Dodd both adding to the ranks at Dalymount as Bohs look to continue their progression in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

Bohs have yet to defeat Shels in the WPD, but know a win on Saturday will be a statement win in their development.

Shels have had new signings impress early on though, with Maggie Pierce arriving from the States and putting in a standout performance on Saturday against Cork City.

Kayla Hamric, another new signing, grabbed a brace on Saturday and looks as to have given Shels good reinforcements after losing bodies in the off-season.

SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division

Treaty United v Cobh Ramblers
Markets Field
10 March, 2023 – 19:45

After a strong start to the season, Cobh Ramblers are looking to continue their unbeaten run in 2023 in a Munster Derby away to Limerick’s Treaty United.

Tommy Barrett’s Treaty will be disappointed not to have gained all three points away to Kerry last time out but knows their home form is crucial in their push for promotion again this year.

Shane Keegan will be encouraged by some early season performances from the likes of new signing Jack Doherty and will begin to start thinking of lofty ambitions considering their start to the new season.

If Cobh are to be serious about a promotion push, a win on Friday night in their Derby will prove to be an important step in building the momentum needed.
