As contenders for the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division add to their ranks, there has been plenty of movement around the three League of Ireland Divisions in the past week while friendlies (some not so friendly) have also taken place.

As contenders for the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division add to their ranks, there has been plenty of movement around the three League of Ireland Divisions in the past week while friendlies (some not so friendly) have also taken place.

St Patrick’s Athletic and Dundalk were the big movers on Thursday as Tim Clancy added former Feyenoord defender Noah Lewis to his defensive cavalry in Inchicore while the terrifically named Archie Davies comes in as Stephen O’Donnell’s new right-back.

The Dundalk Head Coach believes “Archie is a full back that is very comfortable on the ball,” before saying the former Aldershot Town and Brighton & Hove Alblion player “gets into good forward areas and delivers good quality.”

In the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division, Shamrock Rovers have continued to make serious headway in their bid to gain immediate success with the signing of Ireland international Savannah McCarthy. Although, Wexford Youths will be more than happy after securing the signature of Ellen Molloy ahead of 2023.

Kerry, meanwhile, had a gathering of press on Thursday afternoon to announce a brand new sponsorship with Kerry Airport as well as their new green and gold kit matching the Kingdom’s famous colourways.

A squad littered with exciting young Kerry talent, Kerry will hope to have some away fans jetting into Kerry Airport no doubt this year for their first year in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division.

New signings got a run out on Saturday where familiar foes Shels and Bohs had a feisty encounter in Dublin which saw Declan Devine’s new squad claim a 3-1 win with goals from Dean Williams (penalty), Ali Coote and Adam McDonnell.

JR Wilson got the goal for Shels who went on to win 3-1 in Athlone with a second team that evening after Bohs’ other side had beaten St Pat’s 3-1 too.

SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division favourites Waterford, who are preparing for 2023 in Dubai, will face Fleetwood United this afternoon and is available to stream on YouTube.

Not the only LOI side on their travels, Derry City have been in Spain where they fell to a 1-0 loss to Luxembourg side Swift Hesper and Sligo Rovers have been facing English opposition in St George’s Park with a 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic.

A number of Clubs will take to the pitch this weekend too - with Dundalk's match with Cork City a particular highlight.
