Wexford FC manager Damian Locke was focusing on the positive of a point gained despite the concession of a late goal against UCD on Friday evening.

Ross Kenny headed the Slaneysiders in front early in the second-half after they had ridden their luck on occasion in the opening 45 minutes, with goalkeeper Graham Doyle pulling off a superb save to deny Gary O'Neill from the penalty spot.

The hosts looked to be on their way to their first win of the campaign but were denied by an exquisite O'Neill free-kick with four minutes remaining, and Locke believes his charges have plenty to build on.

'It was a game of two halves. They caused us a lot of trouble in the first-half and Graham made a great save from the penalty. In the second-half we started on the front foot and did really well to go 1-0 up and then missed a great chance. That could have been game over, but we'll learn from that,' he said.

Locke admitted that the timing of the equaliser made it that little bit tougher to take but on the whole was pleased with how his side played.

'It was disappointing to concede late on but it's another point on the board and I couldn't have asked for any more from the boys. UCD are a very good side and the boys performed very well against them,' he said.

After securing their second point of their season, Locke is keen to look forward and not back with the not so small matter of a derby against Waterford FC in the EA Sports Cup on Tuesday night to whet the appetite.

'We've two matches against them to look forward to. We're here on Tuesday night and then we're in the RSC next Saturday so it's a big week for us,' he said.
