Keith Long was delighted with the bravery his Bohemians player showed to come from two goals down to beat Bray Wanderers 3-2 at Dalymount Park on Friday night.

Despite the home side dominating the first half, with the impressive Keith Ward hitting the Bray crossbar from a free kick, the Seagulls stunned Bohs to score twice through John Sullivan and Dylan Connolly early in the second.

But Bohs stormed back with Dinny Corcoran getting the first of a brace before Ward levelled.

Corcoran then won it for Bohs with a calm finish on 79 minutes.

The fully deserved victory gave Bohs their first points of the campaign to emphatically deny Bray notions of a record third straight Premier Division win from the start of a season.

“I thought we should have come in a goal or two up at half-time,” said Bohs manager Long.

“We didn’t and the discussion amongst the players was that we have to win the second half and take the game to them again.

“We didn’t get our rewards for some good play in the first half. We bossed the game and were the better side.

“We (then) conceded two goals in 90 seconds, I think, which was a right kick in the teeth.

“They were poor goals from our perspective which we’ve given away again and we’ll have to look at that and pinpoint the areas we need to improve upon if we are going to give ourselves a chance in games.”

But what did impressed Long was that his Gypsies didn’t lie down and kept playing to get their just rewards.

“I can’t praise the players enough. They showed great resolve and character to come back,” said Long.

“It was important that we got the goal back quick enough. It gets the crowd back into the game and gives us a little life and we built on that.

“I thought we showed a lot of courage to come back and win the game.”
