Drogheda United manager Pete Mahon offered no excuses after his side were beaten 6-0 by Dundalk in the Louth Derby at United Park. The Drogs were reduced to ten men early on with the reigning league champions taking full advantage by scoring three times in either half to leave Mahon downbeat after the game. “It’s a horrible night for us,” Mahon acknowledged. “We were well beaten by a well oiled machine and we can have no complaints. "We had weathered the early storm from Dundalk and i thought we were starting to get our game going but when we went down to ten men so early on, there was only going to be one result. "It was a lesson in the gulf in class and resources between the two clubs at present.” Thomas Byrne saw red for Drogheda on the half-hour mark for a late challenge on Patrick McEleney with Mahon believing that the youngster left referee Derek Tomney with little choice. "I have no issues with the red card. My initial reaction was that he made the referee’s mind up for him. "I’ll have a look at it on the DVD but it won’t change anything. "Thomas is a young player but he has to learn that you can’t be doing things like that and he’s going to pay for this.” Despite shipping six goals on the evening, the Drogheda boss is more concerned with his side’s impotency in front of goal with more testing fixtures on the horizon. "We had kept three clean sheets on the bounce going into tonight but our real problem is scoring goals. “We’re the lowest scorers in the league and that’s now six games in a row without a goal. “We bounced back from the 5-0 drubbing we had in Cork a few weeks ago and I hope we show a similar response now. "It’s never nice getting beat at home in a local derby but to be beaten 6-0 is just a disaster."
