Finn Harps came from behind to defeat Drogheda United at Finn Park in sunny Ballybofey and midfielder Tommy McBride noted that a harsh half-time team-talk was exactly what was needed to inspire a much-improved second-half performance.

“It’s great, especially the way we played in the first half, we were awful.” he said about coming from behind to win.

“We went out, and we just went for it and we got the three points and stuck it out till the end,” he said.

“The way we played, I don’t think we even tested their keeper, (Paul) Hegarty gave me a real talking to, he knew I wasn’t doing my job, he said to just get up the pitch higher, and they gave us a bit of advice on what to do.” he added.

Paddy McCourt was introduced at the start of the second half and in his brief performance before going off, he changed the game. “Paddy came on, did his thing, unfortunately got injured, hopefully he will be alright and Lee Toland replaced him,” he said.

“Lee, not even a midfielder, he’s a left back, and he came on and done the job. Scored a goal which was disallowed and he put a ball through, we nearly got a goal from it, so it’s good to see players can play in different positions,” he added.

Finn Harps form has turned around as the club have collected the maximum nine points from their last three games. “Three wins on the bounce now, we just have to take it game by game, just keep fighting, getting the three points, I’d rather play bad and get three points than play well and get nothing at all,” he said.

Next up for Finn Harps is another testing encounter as they host Galway United, a tie which was originally scheduled for April 5th but postponed due to unplayable conditions.

“It’s a good Galway team, I haven’t seen them play but I heard they are a good footballing team so we will be ready for that, hopefully a better performance and hopefully get the points again.” he concluded.
