Waterford FC midfielder Kenny McEvoy is hoping his side can build on their 2-0 win against Wexford FC on Saturday.

The Blues picked up their third win of the season and made it two wins from two in the RSC in the 2017 season.

The former Spurs midfielder played an important role in the match, setting up Mark O’Sullivan’s second goal after the striker had linked up with David madcap in the opening goal.

McEvoy said: “I think that this shows that everyone has done their job and it's great to get another three points ahead of what's going to be another tough game on the road against Longford Town next week.

“It's brilliant to get a cleansheet, too. We got the goals as well and there is no better feeling for attackers or defenders when you don't concede and when you are scoring goals so we’re delighted with that.

“It was a tough game at the beginning. I thought that we played a lot of long balls instead of the passing game that we know we can play. We adapted to the game as it went on and I was delighted to get in a one on one situation.”

McEvoy was delighted to link up with Mark O’Sullivan to make sure of the points, and that an expected physical game developed.

He added: “It's good to have a relationship with the strikers that if I aim for the back post somebody is going to be there. Thankfully when I got in that situation in the second half, Mark O’Sullivan was there to head home.

“I think that you could tell from the start of the game that there was going to be tackles flying in. I think it goes to show that there is a lot of competitive people out there and while it makes for an exciting game, sometimes it can be a bit dangerous.

“It is what it is but you try get on with it on the night. It's fantastic once again though to get a win in front of our home fans because they were excellent again.”
