Dundalk midfielder Jamie McGrath was disappointed with his sides’ performance when he spoke to SSE Airtricity League reporter Ciaran Callan after the game.

Despite having the share of possession and goal chances, particularly in the first half, the Louth side couldn’t find the breakthrough goal.

Dundalk were left discouraged after a resilient Derry City side kept them quiet during a 0-0 draw in Oriel Park on Monday.

“We didn’t get our act together, it wasn’t good enough," he admitted.

Dundalk would’ve been disappointed that their hard work in the first half wasn’t rewarded with a goal, as Chris Shields had a good effort go over the bar, while Derry goalkeeper Ger Doherty produced some important saves.

“We’d like to create more chances, we only had one or two,” McGrath said.

“There were no clear-cut chances where we could say we should’ve scored,” he added.

The Derry side held firm throughout the game and would’ve been happy with the result which leaves them just two points behind Bray Wanderers.

“They’re a good team and they’ve got really good players throughout the squad, but we should be better,” McGrath admitted.

Next up for Dundalk is a trip to the capital to face St Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park on Friday.

McGrath will be returning to his former club but insists that it’s not on his mind; “We’re going to have to work hard for the next few days and go into that game with a good attitude ad try and get the three points."

A win for Dundalk is vital if they’re to remain in touch with the high-flying Cork City, who currently sit 15 points ahead of them in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division table.
