The first seven games of the 2019 season has brought Cabinteely’s best start to a SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign. But the fact that it has mainly gone under the radar doesn’t bother Stephen McGuinness or his team-mates. The skipper is obviously delighted with the fact that the South Dublin team have picked up more points in any other season after seven games since entering the League of Ireland back in 2015. But he stressed it is still only April - and the hard work done on and off the field since pre-season last January by both the squad and teams management must continue. “We’re not even through the first series of games. We have to keep building and building. So, we just take it each game as it comes,” commented the 24-year-old stopper. “We’re not even looking at the table yet. Three points is the next task for every game. We just want to keep building momentum.” The custodian registered his second shut-out in a row in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Cobh Ramblers at St. Colman’s Park. “It was an excellent result. We’ve been dominant on the road (with wins over Shelbourne and Drogheda United). To get the first clean sheet away from home was very important. Cobh is a very tough place to come and get a result. But in training, the management went through things.  "They told us what we exactly needed to do. They told us what they were going to do. And that’s how it planned out,” revealed McGuinness. Having claimed his first clean sheet of the campaign last month against Galway United at Stradbrook, the custodian added “We had to build on the Galway clean sheet. We had to grind out the result. Even the lads who came off the bench, we all knew what we had to do to get the job done.” At the moment, the table looks well for Cabinteely after the first seven league games. But the club captain remains patient to the one game at a time approach. “We’re joint third (just a single point off joint-leaders Longford Town and Limerick). We have Athlone Town next. They’ll be another tough side to play against. But we’ll be going out to get the three points and push further up the league table.”
