Dundalk striker David McMillan is confident the Lilywhites will be able to get the crucial away goal in Norway in next week's second leg against Rosenborg.

The SSE Airtricity League Champions played out a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first leg after McMillan opened his European account this year with a fine first-half header.

Rosenborg defender Tore Reginiussen levelled the tie just before the break to get an away goal for the Norwegian Champions, but despite the equaliser, McMillan believes Dundalk were the better team.

McMillan said: "Delighted to score again for the club in Europe. I thought we started the game really well and deservedly went ahead but it was unfortunate to concede the goal just before half-time.

"I think we were by far the better team and we head over to Norway next week confident we can get a result.

"Sometimes it's difficult when you're not playing against these guys every week so you've got to do as much as you can around the video analysis. It's hard to really know the quality until you get out on the pitch."

The Lilywhites head to Norway for the return leg next Wednesday as they look to carry on their impressive European form from last season where they reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.

Dundalk face exactly the same scenario after last year's first leg as they went into the away leg against FH with a 1-1 draw but scored two goals in a 2-2 draw to secure qualification. McMillan is confident they can repeat this feat.

He continued: "I think we matched them in every department so we're disappointed not to have a lead heading to Norway. We know they will be stronger at home but we've got to believe that we can get the job done.

"We've scored in a lot of away games in Europe last year so I don't think it is a problem for us. It's looks like a nice place to play football so we'll enjoy the opportunity and get the job done."
