Longford Town

It has been mooted that this is the most competitive First Division for many years and Neale Fenn can attest to that. Every time that the Longford Town manager thinks that his team are gaining momentum, they find themselves in crowded company.

However, Fenn won't spend too much time worrying about UCD, Drogheda United and Shelbourne. Instead, he will continue to focus on moulding a team that is driven forward by Dean Zambra, given a creative outlet by Sam Verdon, and inspired by a squad of players all willing to fight for each other.

When in full flow, Longford are a very exciting team to watch. They know how to stretch their opponents but they have also struck a good balance between attacking and defending.

Mid-Season Rating: B
Win or win in style? Fenn would argue that you can do both. It is certainly what he is aiming to do with Longford in his second season in charge and, largely, it is paying off. The crowds are up, the players are responding, and the points are mounting up. But they need to grind out some results too.

Best Player: Daniel O'Reilly
Once on the books at Fulham, O'Reilly is an exceptional athlete who is rebuilding his career with the type of performances that are surely turning the heads of Premier Division clubs. The versatile defender possesses natural leadership qualities but can handle things on his own when called upon.

Most Promising Newcomer: Michael McDonnell
With 1440 minutes clocked up in League games, it is safe to say that McDonnell has adapted well to the demands of the First Division. The former Newbridge Town man is a powerhouse who can break up play or get it going for his team - and he has been superb for Longford.

Area They Need To Strengthen: Goalscorer
Yes the queue for this much sought-after player is longer than any other in the summer sales, but Longford do require someone who can lead the line. Chris Mulhall has done a fine job, while Darren Meenan and Sam Verdon have supported him well but a proven goalscorer would elevate the team to another level.
