Finn Harps recorded yet another clean sheet to make it seven from the last eight league games after a 2-0 win over Galway United at Finn Park.
The win has guaranteed the Donegal outfit a play-off spot which leaves a further two places up for grabs as the season reaches its exciting conclusion.
Defeat to Dundalk in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup leaves Horgans side with a break on the weekend of the 7th of September, and while it may halt their incredible momentum, Horgan says it was to be expected once the draw was made.
Regarding the two-week break he said. “We have no choice, you get drawn away to Dundalk, we didn’t go out of that Cup with open arms, we took a cut of it and we came out the wrong side of it, the better side won.
“Of course, we would still love to be in the Cup, we have a decent panel there, we struggled to pick our 18 tonight, with quality lads and that’s a huge improvement on where we were maybe in the first half of the season.
“I know Bohs complained they had a week off a one stage, they’d have preferred to continue on their good form but they kicked on with their form since, I know we’re not Bohs but it is what it is."
Finn Harps can still win the league title, a win at Belfield on the 14th would see only two points separating the sides going into the final day but Horgan thinks UCD have it in the bag.
“It doesn’t surprise me UCD turning anybody over tonight, not just Drogheda, I know Drogheda had a man sent off but they rarely lose two games in a row and they proved that tonight and showed they are top of the league for a reason.” he said.
“They are the best side in the league, we saw it here in Ballybofey, they destroyed us in the second half, they gave us a runaround in the second half in Belfield as well.”
“We’d love to delay it to put it that way to you but it’s probably only delaying the inevitable should we get anything up there.” he added.
