Match-winner Greg Moorhouse was predictably in good spirits after helping Shelbourne to a 2-1 win over a gutsy Wexford FC outfit in Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening.

The recent acquisition from Sligo Rovers bagged a second-half brace to earn his side the points after Aaron Dobbs had given the home side a shock lead.

Moorhouse said the Reds didn't perform anywhere near their best in the opening 45 minutes, but after a few harsh words in the dressing room at half-time they came out with all guns blazing after the turnaround.

“It's always tough coming down to places like this. We didn't start the game too well and went 1-0 down. We knew we had to be better and I think from the start of the second-half the tempo, everything was much better.

"We wanted it more and the second-half compared to the first-half was like night and day, we were much better,” he said.

With champions-elect U.C.D. closing in on the title it was important for Shelbourne to consolidate their position in the play-off places, as well as continue their momentum into the business end of the season and the former Crumlin United man says they are determined to keep their winning run going.

“It was important that we didn't slip up and we need to keep the pressure on the other teams around us. If we had slipped up tonight we would have been very disappointed going home.

"We have a half decent run-in. It won't be easy but our last three games are winnable so it would be good to keep up the momentum and try to get three points in the next few games,” said Moorhouse.

The attacker was unsurprisingly happy with his own contribution, taking his chances with aplomb, and if he continues in the same vein he won't be long before he's a real fans favourite.

“I'm delighted with the two goals. I was just trying to be in the right place at the right time and get something on the end of them and thankfully tonight I managed to get two.

"I'm only in the door a few weeks and I'm just trying to get going here and hopefully I can help the team out and try to get promoted,” he said.
