Shamrock Rovers’ Trevor Clarke believes the Dublin Derby victory over Bohemians was helped by the Tallaght Stadium crowd.

Rovers claimed the impressive 2-1 victory over their fierce rivals as Clarke claimed the Man of the Match as goals from Brendan Miele and Michael O’Connor sealed victory.

Georgie Poynton converted an injury-time spot-kick for Bohemians to set up a tense finale but Rovers survived the late scare and Clarke was delighted with the win.

“We fought it out until the end. Everybody put their body the on line and the big crowd helped us as well,” said Clarke afterwards.

“I don’t think it was a penalty, it was a harsh one to give,” was Clarke’s verdict on referee Robert Harvey’s late award.

Rovers Head Coach Stephen Bradley professed himself happy with the home side’s performance. “Our tempo was okay in the first half. We had two chances in their box that we snatched at. We could have finished.”

The youthful Hoops boss felt his team fully merited their first league points of the season and their 100th league win over their north Dublin rivals. “Second half we upped the tempo a lot more and that’s our level.  Once we did that, we ran over them. Obviously, we got the goals and could have had three or four.”

Bradley offered an honest evaluation of the contribution from his left back Clarke. “Trevor was brilliant second half. First half, I didn’t think he was good and I told him that. He’s better than what he showed in the first half. He was top class second half and he now needs to produce that performance for ninety minutes.”

Rovers will welcome Derry City to Tallaght for their next league match on March 10th.
