St. Pat’s missed out on a glorious chance to put themselves right back in the thick of things for a European spot, going down 1-0 at home to a much-changed Dundalk side.

“I thought it was even enough," reflected a disappointed Kenny.

“They’ve a bit of quality obviously. They’re a very good team, a lot of strength and depth and can afford to do that (make eight changes). They seem to have even more quality than last year and could have put out two different teams and not look out of place!

"I was very pleased at how we did today at times, we didn’t create too many clear chances I know, but felt we held our own for large parts of the game.”

With goal scoring a problem for the Saints – just the 21 goals scored in the league – the Pat’s boss was bitterly disappointed to lose striker Mikey Drennan to two yellow cards for decent late on, adding: “Yeah, I’m disappointed to say the least, I felt we were in the ascendancy getting in amongst them creating a few half chances and that just takes the sting out of it.

"So I'm disappointed, hugely.”

Kenny has looked to rectify the goal scoring issues with the recruitment of ex-Liverpool youngster Glen McAuley and gave a brief update on the exciting strikers progress.

“Glen just needs to come up to speed is all, his season finished back in May and was doing a few little bits with clubs in England but not a whole pile.

"He only trained once with us this week so that’s why I didn’t put him in today, but we’ll work him really hard this week and have a good look at him and hopefully be involved in the squad against Cork City.”
