St. Patrick's Athletic manager Harry Kenny felt that the best team won after his side's 2-0 home defeat to Shamrock Rovers on Monday night. Goals from Greg Bolger and Sean Kavanagh either side of half time sealed the Tallaght club's second win at Richmond Park this season and Kenny felt that his side did well aside from some slack defending for the first goal. "I thought the best team won, to be honest. While they dominated possession in the first half, Brendan Clarke only had one save to make. It was a sucker punch when our player fell asleep for the goal and let Bolger in and then we conceded again five minutes into the second half." The player he was referring to was Jake Walker but Kenny suggested that Walker will learn from such mistakes in the future. "I don't mean to be on Jake's case," Kenny said. "He's only a young lad making his second start. Staying with your player will come with experience. He'll learn from that, I wouldn't be too harsh on him." There are some high-profile games on the horizon for St. Pat's with a friendly against Premier League giants Chelsea sandwiched in between the two-legged Europa League tie against Swedish side IFK Norrköping. Kenny is looking forward to hosting the two sides at Richmond Park next week. "The Chelsea game is a big challenge because it's between the European games. There should be two packed houses so I just hope we give the crowd a bit of a lift. The team against Chelsea will depend on how the first leg of the European tie goes, after that we'll make some decisions." Speaking of the Europa League tie, Kenny added that he's been impressed by what he's seen from Norrköping. "I've seen videos, they're pretty good. They were beaten last night but before that they beat AIK who are third in the league so they're a decent team. Assessing the season as a whole, Kenny spoke about the need for consistency with his side currently occupying fifth place in the table. "We just need to be more consistent. We got a bit of consistency in the last four matches, we drew two and won two which is pretty decent form. Rovers was always going to be a difficult match. Our level this time around is with Bohs and Derry, chasing down the European spots." Before attentions turn this season's Europa League, Pat's will look to get qualification for next year's edition back on track with a trip to Waterford on Friday night.
