Huge strides were taken by Bohemians, Cork City and Shamrock Rovers as they competed in the inaugural Irish Amputee Football Association National League Senior Cup.
A large crowd gathered at Knockgriffin Park, Cork to witness history being made as teams representing three SSE Airtricity League clubs took part in a first inter-league exchange for amputee footballers.
Bohemians eventually went on to claim glory, but the real winners were the organisers and the volunteers who made this event happen. The goal was to elevate Amputee Football to an entirely new level, supported by the SSE Airtricity League, and that was certainly achieved.
A number of the players involved have represented Ireland on the international stage, but this domestic competition is hugely important as it opens the door of opportunity to all Amputee footballers.
There are plans to continue building on this first tournament, but kudos should go to Bohemians, Cork City and Shamrock Rovers for getting behind the initiative from the very beginning.
