Galway United look to protect perfect start in Limerick, Athlone Town and Peamount United go head-to-head in Westmeath

The SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division returns this Sunday following the first round of the Women’s All-Island Cup and international window for Round 4. Galway United lead the standings three games in, with three wins from three – the only side with a perfect record.

Peamount United, Shelbourne and Athlone Town are all locked on seven points behind them, while Shamrock Rovers and Treaty United round out a tightly-packed top-six on six points apiece.

Defending champions Athlone Town have been boosted by the prolific form of striker Dana Scheriff, who leads the goalscoring charts after scoring four against Bohs in Round 3. At the foot of the table, DLR Waves and Cork City are still searching for their first goal of the campaign. Five fixtures are scheduled for Sunday, with Waterford v Shamrock Rovers postponed.

The day’s action kicks off in Limerick live on TG4 with a clash between two sides who have enjoyed strong starts to the season. League leaders Galway United are the only team to have won all three of their opening fixtures and will travel to Markets Field full of confidence. Aoibheann Costello has been a standout performer for Phil Trill’s side and was named SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Player of the Month for March.

Sean Russell’s Shelbourne sit third in the table on seven points and opened their campaign with a 2-0 home win against Treaty United, with Aoife Kelly and Becky Watkins both on target. The Reds have been one of the most consistent performers in the early weeks and will be looking to keep pace with Galway United at the summit. Bohemians will be hoping to bounce back after suffering a 5-2 defeat to Athlone Town last time out in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

DLR Waves host Sligo Rovers at the UCD Bowl with kick-off set for 15:00. The Waves are searching for their first points of their campaign after three straight defeats, while Sligo Rovers sit ninth on one point following an impressive result against Champions Athlone Town. Both sides will see this as a crucial opportunity to kickstart their seasons.

Wexford sit eighth in the table while Cork City remain at the foot of the table and will be keen to get their campaign up and running, both sides need a result to kickstart their campaign heading into the second month of the season.

The Round 4 fixture between Waterford and Shamrock Rovers, originally scheduled for Saturday at the RSC, has been postponed with a new date for the fixture confirmed in May.
