Preview: On-form Sligo Rovers face Galway United in SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division
A full round of SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division awaits this Saturday with in-form Sligo Rovers facing a wounded Galway United side having suffered a defeat to Bohemians in midweek, while League leaders Athlone Town have an opportunity to build on their advantage at the summit against Wexford.
Sligo Rovers v Galway United
A Connaught derby awaits in The Showgrounds as Sligo Rovers enter the fixture unbeaten in their last nine League games having won their last three on the bounce.
Galway United suffered their first League defeat of the season on Tuesday against Bohemians but Phil Trill's side remain second, two points behind Athlone Town. Galway United won the reverse League fixture 2-1 in March, but a home win for the Bit O' Red would take them within two points of the Tribeswomen.
The two sides met in the Club Orange Women's FAI Cup Quarter-Finals last Saturday where it went the distance to extra-time, with Galway United coming out on top 2-1.
Wexford v Athlone Town
League Champions Athlone Town face Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park, with Wexford boasting an unbeaten home record. Athlone Town are four unbeaten since their only defeat in the League against Galway United. Dana Scheriff leads the League's scoring charts on 14 having scored in 10 of Athlone Town's 12 games.
DLR Waves v Shamrock Rovers
DLR Waves have had most of their success at home with seven of their eight points coming at the UCD Bowl, but arrive on the back of defeats to Galway United and Sligo Rovers.
Shamrock Rovers currently sit fourth in the League stadings, level on points with Sligo Rovers and are unbeaten in their last three games in the League and will be keen to push on in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division having been unable to progress to the Semi-Finals of the Club Orange Women's FAI Cup, pushing holders Athlone Town all the way to extra-time last week.
Waterford v Bohemians
Bohemians travel to the RSC in fine spirits after Tuesday's 1-0 win against Galway United, where Savannah Kane's last-minute goal earned Bohemians their first three points since March.
Waterford were unlucky not to secure their first win since April against Shamrock Rovers last time out, with a goal from substitute Ciara Milton required in the last minutes to rescue a point for the Hoops.
Shelbourne v Peamount United
The Reds have lost just once in the League all season and made it eight games unbeaten after Wednesday's 3-0 win against Cork City, while Peamount United won their most recent outing in the League 5-3 at the RSC against Waterford, including braces from forward Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Sophie Byrne.
Treaty United v Cork City
Treaty United host Cork City in a clash of two Munster sides, with the hosts boasting a strong defensive record - having conceded just nine goals in the League so far, the joint-fewest in the League alongside top two Athlone Town and Galway United.
Cork City remain at the bottom of the League standings after Wednesday's 3-0 defeat at Tolka Park against Shelbourne.
