A full round of SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division fixtures are ahead this Saturday, with League leaders Athlone Town hosting Waterford, who are fresh from a first win since April, while third-place Galway United welcome Treaty United to Eamonn Deacy Park live on TG4 from 19:35.
Galway United have won their last two games and remain firmly in the title picture, sitting just a point behind second-place Shelbourne and seven behind Athlone Town with a game in hand on both. Phil Trill’s side needed a comeback win last week, behind 2-0 to Cork City before goals from Abbie Callanan, Isabella Beletic and Lucy Jayne-Grant completed a 3-2 win that kept them unbeaten at home this season.
Emma Doherty currently sits on 10 League goals, and it was Doherty alongside Ceola Bergin who scored when Galway United won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the Markets Field in April. Fifth-place Treaty United arrive off the back of a 1-0 win against Bohemians, with Caroline Penner’s early goal deciding matters at the Markets Field.
League Champions Athlone Town have won six League games on the spin and are six points clear at the summit and remain unbeaten at home ahead of Waterford’s visit to Athlone Town Stadium. The reverse fixture in May saw Waterford lead 2-0 through Meadhbh Doherty and Fiana Bradley before Dana Scheriff and Alexis Strickland scored twice each in a 4-2 win for Athlone Town.
Waterford ended a 11-game wait for a win last Saturday, with Bradley on target again and a last-minute winner from Jessica Lawler to beat Sligo Rovers 2-1 at The Showgrounds, Bradley has now scored in three of her last four League games. That defeat was a third League game without a win for Sligo Rovers, who travel to the Cross to face a Cork City side who have lost their last six.
Shelbourne travel to the UCD Bowl unbeaten in 11 League games with just one loss all season, the Reds won the reverse fixture 3-0 at Tolka Park in March, while DLR were beaten 3-0 by Peamount United last Saturday.
Wexford and Shamrock Rovers meet for a fourth time this season at Ferrycarrig Park. Wexford won the sides’ Women’s All-Island Cup group stage meeting at Tallaght Stadium in May and returned there in June to claim a 4-2 win. Rovers are in fourth place and have the best away record in the League with five wins from eight on the road, though last Saturday’s loss to Athlone Town ended a five-game unbeaten run.
Bohemians host Peamount United at Dalymount Park in the early kick-off at 13:30, the two sides drew 2-2 at Greenogue Park on the opening day of the season thanks to a brace from Sarah McKevitt. Peamount United responded to three straight losses with a 3-0 win at the UCD Bowl last Saturday.
