Derry are five points better off than the Hoops in the league standings, currently residing in third. They have been in good form since their exit from the Europa League qualifying rounds, with their most recent win against Limerick making it four wins from their last five outings.
Meanwhile Stephen Bradley's Shamrock Rovers will be reeling from their derby-day defeat to Bohemians last week. They were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline thanks to goals from Bohs strikers Ishamil Akinade and Dinny Corcoran.
The Tallaght outfit will be desperate to take all three points tonight, and they will have a chance to overtake the Candystripes in the league standings should they do so and take advantage of their game in hand.
