Shamrock Rovers will be hoping to leave their last game behind them and keep pace with the chasing pack when they host Galway United at Tallaght Stadium on Monday night. 

The Tallaght outfit currently lie in fifth position, four points behind fourth place Derry City who beat them 2-1 last week.

Rovers will need a miracle to catch up with leaders Cork City, but they will be keen pick up three points tonight following a defeat to Derry City last week. 

Galway United are unbeaten in seven league games. Their most recent outing, against bottom side Finn Harps, resulted in a 2-1 win for the Connaught side. 

The bottom half of the league table is particularly tight, with four teams sitting on 14 points. Galway will be eager to gain momentum from their last win capitalise on a Rovers side reeling from their Derry defeat. 

Shamrock Rovers have won their last seven league games against Galway, with the most recent victory coming when the sides last met in March which resulted in a 2-1 victory for Rovers at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley: "It’ll be a tough game, we knew that when we went down there and played them. I think it shows how good our win was down there at that time."

"It was disappointing to take that on Friday because I thought we deserved more but there wasn’t a lot wrong. We just need to tighten up and do what we’ve been doing going forward."
