Roddy Collins' first home match in charge didn't go to plan, he even lost influential captain Niall Scullion to injury late on.
The first goal came from a goal mouth scramble, Igor Labuts' had made two good saves before Josh Collins was bale to bundle the ball into the back of the net, and the linesman did well to spot it.
The second goal came from UCD splitting open the Athlone defense and George Kelly able to slot the ball home make the scoreline look easier then it was.
