Cobh Ramblers got their second win of the SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign, after a 4-1 away victory over Athlone Town.

The visitors got off to a dream start in the fourth minute, when left-back Kevin Taylor played David Hurley in behind the Athlone defence. Hurley took one touch touch before squaring the ball to striker Andrew Wall, who finished calmly into the bottom corner.

The Cork side nearly doubled their lead on the half-hour mark, when Athlone’s high line was caught out by a through-ball, but Wall could only steer his finish straight at Mick Fogarty in the Athlone goal.

However they would not be denied for long, as right-back Charlie Fleming was allowed space down the flank, before producing a sizzling delivery into the penalty area in the 42nd minute.

The ball would fall to the feet of Jaze Kazia at the far post, with the Cobh man directing his strike back across the goal into corner of the net leaving Fogarty with no chance.

After a slow start to the second period, the game burst into life in the 61st minute when Ollie Hamzat received the ball on the right wing, before pulling it back to the penalty spot where it was blasted home by George Mukete.

Cobh would restore their two goal advantage only a minute later. Fleming delivered another excellent cross into the area, which was misjudged by Fogarty and nodded home by Kabia for his second of the game.

This hectic period would continue, after Athlone midfielder Brian Cabraley received his marching orders after a second bookable offence in the 64th minute. Cobh would wrap up the points with five minutes to go, when Darren Murphy converted a penalty after Ian Fletcher took down David Hurley in the area.
