Martin opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and 10 minutes later he made it 2-0. O'Sullivan made sure of the points before half time in the 37th minute.
The second half continued in the same vain as the first. Waterford were far superior all over the pitch. Within four minutes of the restart, McDaid made it 4-0, followed by Martin completing his hat trick in the 62nd minute from the penalty spot. Invernizzi never gave up for Athlone and scored a late consolation, but Walsh was to give Waterford the final say as he rounded Labuts in the final minute to make it 6-1.
