It was honours even between the international panellists as Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers played out a relatively uninspiring 1-1 draw at Dalymount Park.

All the ingredients were there - It was fine evening for football and a near capacity 3,420 crowd including Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, assistant manager Roy Keane and the entire Irish squad, attended to see Shane Supple line up for Bohs and Graham Burke take his place for Rovers.

But, in truth, the ball spent too much too in the night air around Phibsboro and most of the drama came in the last ten minutes. First Rovers skipper Ronan Finn profited from a quick breakaway by Rovers from deep in their own half in the 82nd minute after Watts tried to link with his front men, ignoring Keith Ward, who was free on his left.

Greg Bolger played the ball forward and with the Bohs defence caught upfield, Finn fired the ball low past Supple. Just six minutes later, Bohs were level. Keith Ward swung over a free kick from the left and defender Rob Cornwall rose highest in the box to steer a header past Chencinski for the leveller.

After a few abortive shots following a Keith Ward corner Rob Cornwall took possession 30 yards out and unleashed a shot which flew just wide of Chencinski’s goal. Dan Carr got on the end of a long 16th minute clearance.

His stabbed effort beat Shane Supple but finished the wrong side of the left hand upright. Bohs thought they had taken the lead when a lovely 72nd minute through ball from Ward found Dinny Corcoran who slotted the ball home superbly in front of the massed ranks of the Hoops fans at the School End, but the flag was up. Bohs have now taken seven points for the three Dublin derbies with Rovers this season.
