REPORT: Bohemians 4-2 Cork City

After a long six weeks away from “The Home of Irish Football", Bohs made it seven wis in a row for the first time in 10 years, with a Daniel Kelly double sandwiched between a Delaney own goal and Derek Pender strike.

The in-form home side looked comfortable in possession and smothered the illustious visitors right from the off. And it was from this intense pressure they took the lead, pressing the experienced Damien Delaney in his own corner, forcing a rushed back pass straight into his own net.

The Gypsies deservedly went onto double their lead with just 22 minutes played. The hugely impressive Daniel Kelly won the ball in the middle of the park and decided to go himself blitzing past every defender in sight with his lightning pace and cooly slotted under the helpless Peter Cherrie.

A shell-shocked Cork City found themselves three down with only a half hour played and it was that man Kelly again. Bohs, dogged in midfield, won posession and broke with Keith Ward.

The playmaker bided his time and played a beautiful slide rule pass to Kelly who finished at the near post to send the home fans wild. Graham Cummins pulled one back with a bullet header minutes later when a corner wasn’t dealt with, showing great strength to give his side some hope.

Bohs stretched their lead right on half time. Skipper, Derek Pender played the ball into Kevin Devaney on the left hand side of the box and followed his pass. The left winger Dwas tackled and as the ball broke free, Pender reacted quickest to slot under the onrushing keeper with his left foot.

The Champions began the second half in dominant fashion and got one back to make things a little uneasy around Phibsboro. Jimmy Keohane powered in a header from a delightful Karl Sheppard cross.

Cork to their credit pressed and pressed and went close with a couple of headers through Gearoid Morrissey and goal scorer Cummins but the Bohs defense stood firm at everything that was thrown at them and deserved all three points.
