Coming into the game on a run of four games unbeaten, Cabinteely took the game to the league leaders from the off.

They twice hit the crossbar in the opening fifteen minutes. The first occasion was from a Marty Waters free-kick on the edge of the box. The second was a Dean Casey shot from twenty-five yards.

Jack Watson should have headed the rebound home, but he put it wide from five yards. But the hosts finally converted a chance in the nineteenth minute, as Waters finished a Watson cross from the left.

The goal woke Waterford up. John Martin had a chance to equalise immediately, but Mick Kelly held his effort from inside the box. The did equalise with five minutes left in the half. Mark O'Sullivan got up to powerfully head home from seven yards.

The seecond-half saw far fewer chances created. Matt Connor made a couple of quick saves inside ten minutes of the restart, first from a Watson strike, and then from Ryan Swan, who smashed the rebound towards the goal.

Inside the final five minutes, Dean Walsh had a chance for Waterford. Kelly was equal to the effort in the Cabo goal. Cabinteely were forced to play the final ten minutes with ten men after Kevin Knight was sent off for two yellow cards. But Waterford couldn't take advantage, and it ended In a stalemate.
