History was made at Stradbrook as Cabinteely’s Yuta Sasaki became the first Japanese player to score in the SSE Airtricity League.

Only on the pitch three minutes, the winger made his mark by slotting in the home teams second goal as they beat Wexford on their own turf for the first time since March 2017.

Having entered the fray in the 87th minute, Sasaki was played through in the 90th minute by Keith Dalton’s precise through ball. He took a touch then side-footed past Corey Chambers from 12-yards. The result extended the South Dublin side's recent unbeaten run to four games. But the win was their first victory in five outings.

They had taken the lead just after the interval through a rejuvenated Luke Clucas. The striker ended his 12-month First Division goal drought by snatching a last-gasp equaliser against Athlone earlier this month.

Division top-scorer Rob Manley was felled on the edge of the box in the 48th minute. Clucas stepped up to drive the free through Chambers’ arms. The result leaves bottom of the table Wexford without an away win in the 2019 campaign.

In a scrappy first period with defences on top, the only real chance of note fell the hosts way after just 90 seconds. Dalton wriggled free wide right to send in an inviting cross. The ball fell to Rob Manley at the back post. But away custodian Chambers made point-blank save.
