Cabinteely recorded a first win in the league since late May on Friday night after a 2-1 victory over Cobh.

Pat Devlin's side did the damage early in both halves, before Cian Coleman's goal set us up for a grand stand finish. The hosts couldn't have wished for a better start. Marty Waters was given space on the edge of the box.

He elected to shoot, and it proved to be the correct decision as his effort beat Paul Hunt, going into the top left corner. That was a fruitful period for hosts, as Karl Byrne, Joe Doyle, and Waters on the right caused some consternation on the left flank of Cobh's defence.

It took the visitors a full 25 minutes to force Mick Kelly into action, but Shane Lowth's effort was comfortable for the Cabo keeper. As the half wore on, Cabinteely began to retreat into their shell somewhat, but they were able to limit Cobh to half chances and they took their lead into the break.

The hosts made the perfect start to the second-half. Waters collected Doyle's through ball, before switching the play out to Paul Fox. He smashed the ball passed Hunt to double Cabo's lead. But the cushion lasted less than five minutes. Coleman finished from close range from a Donnellan corner.

Try as they might from there, Cobh couldn't get the ball in the net. Five minutes after their goal, Stephen Christopher made poor contact with a pinpoint Walker cross, pushing the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

Then, as the game entered its final ten minutes, Matthew Whelan had a glorious chance. His effort from six yards was straight at Kelly, however, and Cabo had survived. For them, the result keeps them in the battle for 4th place. For Cobh, it might be a fatal blow to their promotion hopes. Their game against UCD is massive next weekend.
