Gearoid Morrissey scored the winning penalty as Cork kept their bid for a fifth FAI Cup final in a row alive – but just about.

They did so by the skin of their teeth at Stradbrook after coming from 2-1 down in extra time thanks to Ronan Hurley’s last minute equaliser.

It appeared First Division Cabinteely were going to scalp a big scalp after themselves coming form 1-0 behind last night. Top-scorer Rob Manley put them ahead in the first period of extra time.

But his spot-kick was saved by Mark McNulty as the Munster side claimed a shoot-out victory. Manley had put the home outfit ahead in the 94th minute with a left footed shot from the edge of the box.

But City drew level in the 119th minute when Hurley latched onto a left-wing cut-back to score from 14-yards. Skipper Conor McCarthy headed the Rebels in front off a Morrissey corner on 20 minutes.

But Cabo levelled on 76. Paul Fox’s corner was sliced by Conor McCormack. McNulty saved on the line. Manley followed up with Kevin Knight tapping in.
