Cobh Ramblers and Longford Town played out a 0-0 draw at St. Colman’s Park on Saturday evening.

In a quiet opening to the game, both teams battled to create anything of note with both defences well on top. A six-minute period saw Longford have five corners, the best of which saw Conor Kenna have a free header at the back post that Mylod tipped over the bar.

Ramblers struggled to get men forward and support Kabia as Longford’s style of football saw them dominate proceedings without creating much in front of goal.

Despite this, it was the hosts who had the best opportunity of the half in 41st minute when a free kick by Kenny was headed over the defence by McSweeney into the path of Kabia. The young striker got a toe to the ball to direct it pass Steacy only to be denied by the foot of the post.

The second half sprang into life and it was once again Ramblers who came close. A Hurley cross found Fernandes at the back post, but the winger failed to connect properly with his volley and the ball flew across the goalmouth.

Moments later, Hopkins had a chance for the visitors but his near post attempt was just wide. The game began to open up as both teams pressed for a winner. Kenny had a free kick well saved in the 72nd minute by Steacy before the keeper was again called into action to save down low from Kevin Taylor.

Neither team could find a breakthrough in the final stages and had to settle for a point.
