Cabinteely consigned Cobh Ramblers to their second straight defeat with a 1-0 victory at St. Colman’s Park on Saturday evening.

The visitors burst out of the blocks and could have taken the lead in the opening minute when Kieran Waters volleyed wide at the back post. It was a sign of things to come as Cabinteely pressed for an early breakthrough.

Ramblers keeper Mylod had to be at his best in the 6th minute when a cross by Blackbyrne was met by Manley whose powerful header was somehow kept out by the Cobh netminder. Conor Keeley missed two opportunities to open the scoring before Kabia created Ramblers first chance, but the striker’s shot was well saved by McGuinness.

Cabinteely’s pressure finally told in the 21st minute when a header over the defence allowed Manley to ghost in on goal and slot home. Ramblers’ defence appealed for offside, but the referee waved away the protests.

Not happy with one, Cabinteely almost doubled their lead a minute later, but Waters’ cross just evaded the run of Manley. Ramblers struggled to muster a response until a solo run and shot by Fernandes tested McGuinness, but he was equal to the effort.

In the second half, Cabinteely thought they had extended their lead in the 51st minute but Keeley’s goal was ruled out for offside. Ramblers slowly grew into the game with Kabia missing a glorious chance when a Hurley cross found him unmarked in the box, but his heavy touch was gratefully gathered by McGuinness.

Ramblers sub Kenny saw his dipping shot go just over for the home side, who started to dominate in the late stages of the game. In the dying seconds, Ramblers defender Charlie Lyons was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident.

Cabinteely held firm to claim all three points and claim their second win a row.
