Shelbourne ended Cobh Ramblers undefeated run at home with a 1-0 victory at St. Colman's Park on Saturday evening. The first half was a nip and tuck battle with both teams refusing to give an inch. Ramblers started the better of the sides and an early Coleman shot went just over the bar of Delaney's goal.

Stephen Henderson set Ramblers up with a 4-4-2 formation while on the attack that reverted to 5-3-2 while defending. The approach almost payed dividends when Abbott found Mylod who tested the Shels keeper again. Shelbourne refused to be outplayed and O' Connor tested Hunt when his half volley from outside the box had the keeper saving low to his right.

Tempers threatened to spill over when a late tackle by Fleming sent Alan Byrne toppling over the side line. Grimes then clashed with Fleming and the referee showed both men yellow cards. The first half ended with both teams playing their best football which saw Abbott miss half a chance for Ramblers but the teams remained deadlocked at the break.

The second half saw Shelbourne come out determined to put Ramblers under pressure. They dominated the early stages and had efforts from both Kavanagh and Evans.

They got their reward in the 63rd minute when a long ball allowed English to pick up the ball in the box. He did well to draw the foul from McSweeney and the referee had no hesitation pointing to the spot. English himself stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

The expected response from Ramblers did not come and Shels went on to dominate the final 20 minutes They could and probably should have extended their lead when Evans was played through but Hunt saved well.

Ramblers could not muster a response and Shels return to Dublin with a deserved 3 points.
