Cobh Ramblers and Wexford shared the spoils at St. Colman’s Park playing out a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.

The home side dominated the opening half of this game and almost took the lead in the 9th minute when an Ian Turner cross was met by Jamie O’ Sullivan but the defender’s powerful header was well tipped over the bar by Jason McGuire.

Wexford were restricted to very little, Thomas Croke’s shot from distance their only notable chance early on. Ramblers continued to press in search of the opener and it duly came in the 27th minute.

A simple ball over the top by Ben O’ Riordan set Cian Leonard away and the striker only needed one touch to slot it past McGuire. The home side were comfortable now but were undone by a defensive mistake that allowed Wexford a way back into the game.

A high ball in wasn’t dealt with by Lyons and Danny Furlong nipped in to slot it past Hunt and give the visitors an against the run of play equaliser. Ramblers almost replied immediately through Stephen O’ Leary but his looping header was brilliantly tipped over by McGuire.

Wexford improved greatly in the second half and controlled many of the early exchanges. The visitors missed three great opportunities to take the lead in the space of five minutes.

First, Shane Griffin struck the bar from distance followed by Furlong volleying wide from six yards. Croke then forced Hunt into a terrific save to keep the game level.

Ramblers struggled to assert the dominance they enjoyed in the first half. Both teams pushed hard for a winner in the final stages but in the end had to settle for a point.
