Cobh Ramblers recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Cabinteely on Friday evening at St. Colman's Park.

Matthew Whelan and Stephen Christopher struck the decisive goals in either half. Cabinteely started the game strongly and threatened early through Watson and Hunt.

It was Ramblers, however, who took the lead in the 12th minute when a terrific ball over the top put Whelan through on goal. He used his strength to keep the defender away before finishing with great composure past Kelly.

The game continued at a frantic pace but for all their good play Cabinteely struggled to create anything clear cut. In the second half, Ramblers looked to kill off the game early with sustained pressure and got their reward in the 58th minute through Stephen Christopher.

Jason Abbott played the ball initially to Matthew Whelan who lost control. Man of the match Abbott immediately pressed to win the ball back and slide Whelan in once again.

Just as it looked like he would shoot, Christopher apppeared to Whelan's right who squared the ball to him to finish into the corner of the net. Cabinteely raised the tempo of the game for the final 30 minutes but Ramblers continued to control the proceedings.

The win marks a great achievement for the club as they have now gone one year unbeaten at home in the league. Next up for Ramblers is a trip to UCD whereas Cabinteely welcome Athlone Town to the capital.
